Platform comparison

Compare ecommerce platforms side by side.

Select the brands you are considering and compare their Ecom Rating, features, ease of use, value, support, pricing, business fit and user feedback using the same data published in our company reviews.

01 · Ratings See where the score difference comes from.

Overall rating is shown alongside Features, Ease of Use, Value and Support.

02 · Cost Compare pricing in context.

Starting price sits next to business fit instead of being treated as an isolated number.

03 · Community User TrueScore remains separate.

Community feedback does not overwrite the editorial Ecom Rating.

04 · Detail Pros and cons come from the reviews.

Use the comparison to narrow the shortlist, then open the full review for deeper research.

Short description
Lemon Squeezy is a Merchant of Record platform for software and digital businesses, combining global payments, subscription billing, licensing, usage-based pricing, tax handling and multi-store operations.
Stripe is a global payments platform for accepting online and in-person payments, managing subscriptions, billing, invoicing, fraud prevention, payouts, and embedded financial services through APIs and ready-made tools.
Pros
  • Multiple independent stores can be managed from a single Lemon Squeezy account
  • There is no stated limit on how many stores an account owner can create
  • Unlimited products can be created with unlimited variants
  • Different variants of the same product can use different pricing models
  • Subscription billing supports standard, package, volume, graduated and usage-based pricing
  • Subscription products can include a separate one-time setup fee
  • License keys can have configurable activation limits and expiration periods
  • Issued license keys can later have their activation limits or expiration dates changed
  • Individual license keys can be disabled or regenerated after purchase
  • Subscription license keys automatically follow the lifecycle of the related subscription
  • Test mode can simulate checkout, subscriptions, license keys, webhooks and API integrations
  • Existing buyers automatically receive access to updated product files
  • Each payout automatically generates a reverse invoice for seller accounting
  • Marketplace eligibility can begin after only 3 store sales or $50 in product revenue
  • Team members can operate most store functions without receiving access to payouts or billing
  • No setup or monthly fee for standard payment processing
  • Supports 100+ payment methods and 135+ currencies
  • Powerful APIs and extensive developer documentation
  • Flexible checkout options including Checkout, Payment Links, and custom integrations
  • Built-in fraud prevention with Stripe Radar
  • Strong subscription and recurring billing tools
  • Stripe Connect supports marketplaces and multi-party payment platforms
  • Wide ecosystem covering payments, billing, invoicing, tax, payouts, and more
  • Custom pricing is available for high-volume businesses
  • Suitable for businesses ranging from startups to large platforms
Cons
  • The advertised 5% + $0.50 fee is not the maximum fee a seller may actually pay
  • International transactions can add another 1.5% processing fee
  • PayPal transactions can add another 1.5% fee
  • Subscription payments can add another 0.5% fee
  • Sales recovered through abandoned-cart emails can add a 5% marketing fee
  • Merchant affiliate referrals can add another 3% fee
  • Non-US bank payouts currently carry a 1% payout fee
  • Non-US PayPal payouts cost 3% and are capped at $30 per payout
  • Net sales are normally held for 13 days before becoming available for payout
  • Payouts are created only twice per month rather than immediately after each sale
  • The minimum seller payout threshold is $50
  • New stores must pass business and identity review before live selling is enabled
  • Store approval typically takes 2–3 business days
  • Products created in test mode are not automatically transferred into live mode after approval
  • Lemon Squeezy can issue refunds within 60 days at its own discretion to help prevent chargebacks
  • A successful chargeback can result in a $15 dispute fee being deducted from a future payout
  • Updating product files changes what previous customers are able to download
  • Deleting a product file also removes access to that file for previous purchasers
  • Team permissions are limited to only Owner and Member rather than granular custom roles
  • The original store owner cannot be changed directly inside the dashboard
  • Services such as consulting, design and marketing cannot be sold
  • Physical products are prohibited
  • PLR and Master Resell Rights products are prohibited
  • A marketplace business selling third-party products through Lemon Squeezy is prohibited
  • Pricing can become complicated when multiple Stripe products are used
  • International cards and currency conversion add extra processing costs
  • Advanced integrations may require developer experience
  • Many products such as Billing, Tax, and Connect have separate fees
  • Original payment processing fees are generally not returned after a refund
  • Standard Stripe Payments does not eliminate every tax and compliance responsibility for the merchant
  • Costs can rise noticeably for businesses with many international transactions
  • The large feature set may feel excessive for very small sellers needing only basic payments
How to read the comparison

A higher score is only one part of the decision.

The comparison tool highlights stronger numeric scores, but the highest-rated platform is not automatically the best choice for every business. A lower-scoring platform can still be the better fit when its pricing model, workflow or target user matches your requirements more closely.
Ecom Rating
Use it as the broad editorial signal.

It summarizes the platform assessment on a 10-point scale and provides the starting point for comparison.

Breakdown
Look for the reason behind the total.

Features, Ease of Use, Value and Support show where one platform gains or loses ground against another.

Best For
Check whether the product is built around your use case.

A platform designed for creators, B2B merchants or multi-store businesses should not be judged only by the same headline score.

User TrueScore
Use community ratings as a second perspective.

Approved user feedback is displayed separately from the editorial score so the two signals remain easy to distinguish.

Comparison FAQ

Before you choose.

The tool is designed for shortlisting rather than declaring one universal winner. Compare the numbers, then use the individual reviews to investigate the differences that matter to your business.

How many ecommerce platforms can I compare at once?
You can compare between two and four company cards at the same time. Keeping the group small makes the detailed rating, pricing, pros and cons rows easier to evaluate side by side.
Are the comparison scores separate from the company reviews?
No. The comparison plugin reads the same company-card data used throughout Ecom Ratings. If an editorial rating or other company field is updated, the comparison reflects the updated card rather than maintaining a second independent score.
Does the highest Ecom Rating mean that platform is always the best choice?
No. The Ecom Rating is a broad editorial assessment. Pricing, category, business fit and the individual Features, Ease of Use, Value and Support scores may make another platform a stronger match for a specific use case.
What is the difference between Ecom Rating and User TrueScore?
Ecom Rating is the site’s editorial score on a 10-point scale. User TrueScore is a separate community rating based on approved user reviews and uses a 5-star scale.
Can I send someone a link to a specific comparison?
Yes. After selecting at least two brands, use the comparison tool’s “Copy comparison link” button. The selected company slugs are stored in the URL so the same comparison can be reopened directly.
